Childhood cancer does not discriminate. Expanding access to clinical trials and cutting-edge research for kids battling cancer from diverse, underserved and economically challenged populations is critical. Your support makes access to better treatment a possibility.
Including more kids of all backgrounds in clinical trials and research studies will ultimately cure more children and give survivors a better outcome. Some cancers are more prevalent in certain geographic areas or in children with specific genetic backgrounds, and learning more about these may help not only these children, but other children as well.
One way your support will give more kids the opportunity to participate in clinical trials is by funding St. Baldrick’s “infrastructure grants.” These give local institutions the resources to open and manage more trials, so families don’t need to travel to distant hospitals for what could be given closer to home. These grants go to institutions serving diverse populations and in areas where the need is greatest. And the need for these $50,000 grants far exceeds the funding available. Each year more than $1 million in deserving applications go unfunded.
Another way your support helps is by training childhood cancer researchers around the world, through International Scholar Awards. These Scholars continue to work with their home country research institutions during and after training, ultimately giving children in Africa, India and other developing countries better chance for cures. Again, demand exceeds supply of funds. Each International Scholar Award is between $330,000 and $560,000 (3-5 years of training).
See below for examples of the kinds of research your support
of this Fund will make possible. If you’d like to learn more about how
you can support this work through a donation or fundraising, please contact Kelly

Donations given to the Expanding Access Hero Fund go directly to the St. Baldrick's Foundation to fund lifesaving childhood cancer research to help children of diverse backgrounds around the world.
The Foundation is guided by a Scientific Advisory Committee, comprised of leading experts in the childhood cancer community, to ensure that every dollar makes the greatest impact for kids with cancer.
These people make us smile - they're the doers and money-raisers on behalf the Expanding Access Hero Fund. They're shaving their heads, hosting events, starting fundraisers and more to make childhood cancer research possible.
Start your own St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event to raise money on behalf of our Hero Fund! You’ll be paired with a staff member who will walk you through every step of the process, and you’ll have fun knowing you’re doing a great thing for kids with cancer.
