The Children's Hospital at Westmead is the highly respected, largest paediatric cancer hospital in NSW, providing excellent care for children from NSW, Australia and across the Pacific Rim.
The Oncology Department is the largest childhood cancer department in NSW. Each year approximately 250 children in NSW are diagnosed with cancer and The Children's Hospital at Westmead is responsible for up to 150 of these new patients and their families.
The Oncology Department has incorporated a 'lab to bedside' approach, having both the cancer research department and the clinical arms of the department working together. This results in improvements in diagnosis, therapy and ultimately long-term survival. The research scientists are at the forefront of paediatric cancer research, working to better understand the nature of childhood cancer and explore ways to neutralise its devastating effects - giving each child the best chance of life.
Through this partnership with The Children's Hospital at Westmead, proceeds from St. Baldrick's head-shaving events in Australia will help sustain existing programs and develop new initiatives to explore research and treatment opportunities for children with cancer in Australia.
