Celebrating 25 Years

St. Baldrick’s started as a grassroots effort 25 years ago, driven by people who believe in helping kids with cancer.

National Partner

Wissahickon Lacrosse

You heard it right - Members of the Wissahickon Lacrosse community are shaving our heads in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research! Community service is something that I keep close to my heart. I believe that as coaches and role models, we must give back to the community from what we have received all of our lives. This is why I would like to get the team involved in an organization known as St. Baldricks. St. Baldricks is a non-profit organization who raises money and awareness to help fight and find a cure to childhood cancer. The reason why this is so important to me is because I have dealt with first hand. I have a young teenage cousin who has been battling cancer for most of his life. I have watched him loose his hair due to the treatment and the medicines that he was on. Cancer has effected each and every one of us in one way or another and this is a great way to help fight this disease! This is where the fun part of the community service comes into play. Just about a year ago, I participated in my first St. Baldricks event. I raised money and awareness of childhood cancer and in doing so, I shaved my head. Yes, I shaved my head. The best part about shaving my head was, the feeling that I got knowing that I was helping a cause that was much bigger than me. So, here it is. I would like to get as many players, parents, siblings, friends, etc. as possible to sign up and join the "Wissahickon Lacrosse" team on March 12 @ 6:00 p.m. at Mcfadden's Ballpark and shave your head! I understand that some of you can not part with your 'luscious locks' but that does not limit your help and involvement. If you do not want to shave your head, you can always help raise money and awareness. In the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. Please make a donation on my behalf to support childhood cancer research so that all children diagnosed with cancer will have a better chance for a cure. To make a donation, click on "Make A Donation" or donate by mail or phone. The Wissahickon Lacrosse community would like to thank you for your support!
