Many of you are aware that my son Kyle and I raise money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation each year on St. Patrick’s Day. This year will be our 5th, and since we started back in 2008, we have raised over $20,000 with the help of friends and family who have generously donated their money, and a few that have even joined the team and shaved their heads along with us. For those of you unaware of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, here is some information: • Cancer is the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. • Worldwide 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year. • Two thirds of childhood cancer patients will have a long lasting chronic condition from the very treatment that helped save their lives. • The National Cancer Institute spends 96% of its budget on adult cancers and only 4% of its budget on children’s cancers. • Since established as an independent foundation in 2005, St. Baldrick’s has: • Raised over $118 million for life-saving childhood cancer research • Awarded over 100 Fellow and Scholar awards, to develop the childhood cancer research experts of tomorrow • Funded grants at over 200 institutions focusing on childhood cancer research, making it possible to treat more children on clinical trials • This year we will be honoring 9-year old Landry Robinson of Texas (see attached picture). Landry is suffering from Medulloblastoma, a cancer of the brain, specifically in the center part of the cerebellum, which controls motor and balance skills. Please consider donating to this great cause, you can visit our team web page at the link below: http://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/mypage/73724/2012 Thank you very much, Jim & Kyle McPhillips Team – “Bay Baldies 2012”
