Hi!
We (Shelomzion and Eliana) are shaving our heads in September for childhood cancer research. Here's why:
"Worldwide, a child is diagnosed every 2 minutes. That's 300,000 kids every year. More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease—in fact, more than many other childhood diseases combined.
But even for kids who survive, the battle is not over...
A recent study shows that because of the treatments they had as kids, by the time they’re 45, more than 95% of survivors will have a chronic health problem and 80% will have severe or life-threatening conditions.
Two-thirds of children treated for childhood cancer will suffer long-term effects from treatment including loss of hearing and sight, heart disease, secondary cancers, learning disabilities, infertility and more.
So in addition to finding cures, a lot of research is focused on preventing the lifelong damage that results from surgeries, radiation and chemotherapies given while young bodies and brains are just developing."
[St. Baldrick's].
YET...ONLY 4% of US federal funding is solely dedicated to childhood cancer research!!!! FEEL THE NEED TO READ THAT AGAIN?!?! YUP! 4% OF NCI FUNDING GOES TO ALL OF CHILDHOOD CANCERS COMBINED!
If you are reading this right now, know that you can do something!!
If every person reading this gives what they can, together we can move one step closer to cures for childhood cancers!
Don't just see this and push it off! We know it's a little annoying and out of your way, but it really will make a difference! Please right now take the time to donate while this really important cause is fresh in your mind!
It will only take 2 minutes and we'd really greatly appreciate it!
Thank you, and if you have any questions or anything feel free to contact us!
Only the best,
Shelomzion and Eliana
