In honor of Maggie Philbrook (pictured above) we are shaving our heads to raise money for childhood cancer research.
Here is a little about Maggie's story:
Just over one year ago, then 12 year old, Maggie Philbrook came down with what her parents thought was a stomach bug. Maggie wasn't bouncing back from her flu so her parents took her to the doctor. Within a couple of days young Maggie was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma.
The past year has had many ups and downs. One of the most unexpected things was Maggie's appearance in the CHaD produced video for the Katy Perry song, Roar. The video went viral with almost 4 million views on YouTube. Maggie even appeared on CNN with Piers Morgan talk about the experience with the video. (Link to the youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnG3MKos87A - Maggie is the one with the UNH sweatshirt).
Maggie has been an inspiration to adults and kids alike throughout the last year. She has kept a positive attitude and taken all of the "inconveniences" of being a kid with cancer in stride. With the support of her amazing family and friends Maggie fought a courageous battle.
Maggie passed away, surrounded by those who love her, shortly before 5am Saturday, February 1st, 2014. This brave and beautiful young lady continues to reach out and inspire those who didn't know her. Her life and fight has created a ripple effect.
No parent should have to go through this experience with their child.
Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So we decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
Now we need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
