I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Got CUREage?

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Got CUREage?

Hi, I'm Gabby, a thirteen-year-old girl with a passion for quantum mechanics and science in general.

Learning about what childhood cancer actually is was one of those things that you accidentally learn about when you're browsing the internet. A random search for "particle physics applications" led to "medical treatments with quantum mechanics." This taught me about proton beam therapy, a 'new' technology that kills more cancer cells and minimizes otherwise unavoidable side effects. That led down to a rabbit hole of research teaching me about what childhood cancer truly means.

Childhood cancer means undergoing treatments that put toxic chemicals into kids' systems, procedures that beam high doses of radiation at young bodies, surgeries where developing limbs get messed up, sometimes wholly amputated. Childhood cancer, all too often, means death.

The reality for kids with cancer is harsh. Despite the advancements in science to help them, the research and equipment needed for effective and life-saving childhood cancer treatments are still extremely underfunded.

PLEASE donate to allow more children to #DFYchildhoodcancers and help fund the research and treatment needed.

I have shaved bald virtually on April 3rd. Big thanks to Talia for doing it with me!

With thanks to all my donators and sponsors that helped me surpass my goal! Audrey, Lauren, Sarah, Alexis, Yonsu, Cynthia, Samara, and Keira; Mr. Brewer, Ms. Yip, Ms. Ho, Ms. Benjabanpot, Ms. Lo, Mr. Tagliere, Ms. Kong, Mrs. Xu, and Mr. Lam; and the Jung, Barnes, Landman, and Park families.

Thanks also go to my parents, who helped shave my head and donated a lot. Not so much gratitude goes to my siblings, who mostly screamed and laughed when I shaved my head.
