I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
I have been a volunteer photographer for the St Baldrick’s events for the past 4 years. Through it I have meet many amazing people. My wife called my daughter Erica about 4 years ago and said “I’m thinking about doing something crazy. I thinking about shaving my head to help raise money for children’s cancer research.” She then proceeded to tell Erica about St Baldrick’s and how people sponsor them in shaving their head. My daughter, a Cirque du Soliel performer in Las Vegas, listened and asked questions. A few days later she called back and said that she had looked into it and decided that she would also shave and that she had already started organizing a team called Cirque du SoBald. I flew to Las Vegas and surprised my daughter when she got her head shaved. To say that I was extremely proud is a severe understatement. I have watched my wife and daughter, directly and indirectly, raise many thousands of dollars to fight this terrible disease. Our family is blessed to know the parents of Joey Brunson. Their son was 7 when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. I can only imagine the heartache of hearing those words. Joey bravely fought on for two years. When he was in remission he was as rambunctious as any boy his age. Joey was taken from us by cancer in June 2007. Too many children have been taken by this killer. I was encouraged to read that recently the relapse rate for the most common type of childhood cancer, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, has been cut in half by using an old drug in a new way. Money supports research and research means life. You can read more about this and many other exciting projects at SBFnews@StBaldricks.org.
I’ll still be taking pictures (along with my wife and son) of the Colorado Springs St Baldrick’s event at Berger Hall UCCS April 21st but this time, I’ll also be taking a turn in the barber’s chair. I’ve already committed to shaving my head but, with your help, if I am able to raise over $2,000 dollars, the beard and moustache will also go. Please help, my children don’t remember me without a beard and are anxious to see it!
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens, young adults and their families fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I’m really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
