I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: 6 is a Serious Number

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: 6 is a Serious Number

The Bachert Boys (Jason, Brady and Bennett) are shaving their heads to raise money for childhood cancer research! Our family has been blessed with good health, but we know that is not the case for many of our friends and families in our community.

Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So we decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.  Check out a few pictures below from our head shaving event last year.

Now we need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.

The Bachert Boys are part of a team called 6 is a Serious Number.  Over the past years, 6 is a Serious Number has raised $164,112.02. Add in this year’s total to date of $15,171.66 and that’s nearly $180,000 for lifesaving childhood cancer research!

Currently funded in St. Louis is an infrastructure grant at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. This funds the work of a clinical research associate to increase the number of kids in clinical trials and enable more kids to be treated in clinical trials close to their homes. Our team has raised enough to help pay for the entire cost of this $85,000 grant.

Another local grant that was just completed in June 2017 was for Dr. Jeffrey Magee at Washington University in St. Louis. While his grant is completed, our team's efforts certainly helped fund research like Dr. Magee's during his tenure as a St. Baldrick’s scholar.

Here’s more on our team’s impact by the numbers:

$180,000 provides funding for 36 medical school or college students to work in a pediatric oncology research lab for one summer, possibly encouraging them to choose childhood cancer research as a specialty.

$180,000 helps pay for 180 kids to be treated in a clinical trial at an institution, often a child’s best hope for a cure.

Can we count on you to support our goal of $10,000?  Thanks in advance!
