Cancer has been a mainstay in my family; it’s the worst sort of foundation a family can have when dinner conversations involve treatment schedules, new and emerging cures and prayers for remission. Eight of my family members have been diagnosed with one type of cancer or another; six of them have lost the battle, and while the remaining two are currently in remission, one in particular has fought for her life three times. You can imagine, then, why cancer is something that speaks to my heart and the hearts of my family.
Heroes for Hannah is an event that I’ve always felt drawn to because of my family’s history with cancer, and especially in the last two years since I became a mother; just the thought of learning my daughter has cancer is enough to bring tears to my eyes.
By pledging to donate my curls – those who know me, know my curls are a chief part of my identity and have been for the last 33 years! – I am doing a small part to raise funds that will help to finance vital research in the effort to eradicate cancer and will fund hundreds of global institutions to participate in national paediatric cancer clinical trials. The funds raised will also provide grants to train researchers working in developing countries.
Thank you so much for choosing to stand with me and support this worthy cause! If you prefer to make your donation by cash or cheque, that is okay too, just let me know.
