Did you know that childhood cancer is the leading cause of death among children in the United States? Since 2000 the St. Baldrick's Foundation has raised tens of millions of dollars for childhood cancer research.
This year, I am shaving my head to help raise money for St. Baldrick's, and am doing so in honor of Rylie. Rylie is 6 years old and is a 1st grade classmate of our son Patrick in West Hartford. Please read below a note from Rylie's mom about her daughter's battle with cancer, and consider donating in support of Rylie and all those kids who do have, have had, and will have cancer.
Rylie is a creative and enthusiastic six year old girl. She loves crafting, going to school and playing with her friends. She was diagnosed with ALL - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on June 17, 2009. The last eight months have been difficult for everyone. I am thrilled to say that she entered the Maintenance phase of her treatment in January. She will continue her treatment until August 2011, but can now start to return to a more "normal" lifestyle. Rylie has an amazing spirit. It has been her courage and strength that has gotten all of us through this time. She is grateful for all of the support that her friends, family and community have provided and for the amazing doctors and nurses at Connecticut Children's Medical Center . Rylie embraced her hair-loss. She is happy that her beautiful red hair is growing back, but believes that BALD is BEAUTIFUL! We support Paul Sullivan and the St. Baldrick's foundation and their efforts to support childhood cancer research.
