I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Shelomzion and Eliana

I am so thankful for all the donations thus far! You guys are actually amazing and it makes me so happy that you took the time to donate for this really important cause! Thank you thank you thank you!

Hi! My name is Shelomzion. In September, I will be shaving my head for childhood cancer research.I had toyed with the idea of shaving my head for maybe a year or so, but had never actually had the courage to do it. I knew that I wanted to, but also recognized that some aspects of it might be weird for me. Like walking down the street people may look at me differently. And I also like my hair! :)It was this year where the idea of shaving my head became a plan.I found an organization called St. Baldrick's. St. Baldrick’s is one of the leading volunteer-based, organizations devoted to childhood cancer research. People create head-shaving events through them, and then shavees (yes this is what they're called :p) sign up and raise money for childhood cancer research. Then at the event, they shave their head. Think of it as a run for a cause. You sign up, and then you find sponsors. As I found out all this, I heard my friend Eliana was talking about how she was interested in shaving her head! And she had actually come across this website as well!!This was really the turning point. Were we just interested in it, or were we actually going to do it?We talked about it a lot. We talked about the downsides, and the many many upsides. We talked about why and the importance of it. But we also recognized that it may be uncomfortable in some situations. At the end of the day, we realized that we wanted to do it. So much good can come out of it. And it's just hair! It grows back!!I said before to think of this as a run. But I think that this has even a bigger effect.A bunch of people have asked us, "why are you shaving your heads, why don't you just fundraise?"This is where this question comes in.When you run a run, you run it and then it's over. Walking down the street three days later, nobody looks over at you and says, "oh he for sure ran a run yesterday". But when you shave your head it's different. You look different. And this is a really big opportunity to raise awareness. People look over at us, we can tell them about how childhood cancers get only around 4% of US federal funding, or how childhood cancers are different than adult cancers, and often require different treatments.  By shaving my head I will be raising awareness, as well as raising money for childhood cancer research.By sponsoring me, you will be helping kids with cancer find better treatment options. You can help these kids live!!!Every single dollar helps! Thank you so so much! I cannot express how much I appreciate it! (a lot!!!!) Shelomzion
