Yes, I'll be shaving my head on Feb. 26th to help raise money for research of childhood cancer. Why? It all has to do with a person I've never even met.
Before I was born, my cousin Ashley died of childhood leukemia. I remember my father telling me when I was younger that Ashley didn't exactly care for his doctors. They were just spot welders. They couldn't fix the problem; they couldn't help him. All they could do was try to make him feel better.
It's hard not to think that if Ashley had been born just ten years later his outcome might have been different. But maybe it wouldn' t have been. Maybe the cure for Ashley's cancer hasn't been discovered yet.
I know how I can help. I can become a doctor and do my best as a future pediatrician to do my best by my patients. And I can shave my head for St. Baldrick's.
But you too can help. You can volunteer for St. Baldrick's. You can raise money and shave your own head. Or you can donate just a few dollars. Just a few dollars and be comforted in knowing that your help will be going to make my head cold, but most importantly your few dollars will be helping children like Ashley live on to be with their family: present and future.
Thank you.
