The official blurb is below, but I'd like to tell you why I personally am a participant with St. Baldrick's. Four years ago I heard a conversation, in passing, about a woman who was planning on shaving her head to support cancer research for children. At the time, I did research based solely on being bored. I signed up on a whim and a few weeks later shaved my head for the first time.
I'll be honest and say that part of the reason I am back for the third time is because I LOVE the way I look when I'm bald. But much more importantly, I am back to shave my head again for the kids who benefit from the funds I can raise. Teeny tiny humans who haven't had the chance to grow up and be the "hero" St. Baldrick's labels me as. (For the record, the usage of hero makes me uncomfortable.) I can do two things for these kids: 1) I can shave my head, donate my hair and know that it's being used to make wigs for those who need and/or want them; and 2) I can ask generous, kind-hearted people I know to donate whatever they can to help St. Baldrick's fund children's cancer research. I can do those two things super easily and as a result, I do them happily and with enthusiasm.
That's my explanation, my reason for shaving every two years. Now here's my request: Join a team, (or shave by yourself!) and help me raise funds to stop cancer from stealing the lives of tiny humans. If you don't want to, or can't, shave your head -- please consider donating on mine! I'm proud to carry your donations to St. Baldrick's and acknowledge the wonderful people in my life who understand the importance of St. Baldrick's and the work they do in this world.
I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
