I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Have you ever watched a child struggle with cancer?

I never have. And that is a blessing I wish many more people could share.

That is why I've answered the call to be a hero. On May 21, 2011, I am having my head shaved - to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, to increase awareness of the need for research funding, and most importantly, to raise money to find cures.

Although relatively rare, childhood cancers are the #1 cause of disease-related death in U.S. children under 15. Research can change that.

So please sponsor me in this effort with a tax-deductible donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization save the U.S. government. Be sure to check out "Where the money goes" for the kinds of research St. Baldrick's supports.

Your gift - whether $100 or $1 - will give hope and courage to children, teens, and young adults who are facing childhood cancers, and who don't have the luxury of choosing to lose their hair. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids and their families as they battle this disease. They are the true heroes.

Click "Make a Donation" to give online, or donate by phone or mail. (See privacy policy.) You may donate anonymously, and you may make your gift in honor or in memory of a loved one. Click here for further details and FAQs on how to donate.

Each donation is a step closer to ensuring that more and more people will never have to witness a child fighting cancer. A step closer to better research, better diagnosis, better treatments. . . and better yet, to a world where a child never has to fear cancer at all.

Thank you for your generosity!
