I'm raising money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
On August 24th, 2015, my twin sister, Martha, was diagnosed with Metastatic Ewing's Sarcoma in her pelvis. Ewing's is a rare pediatric bone cancer. After 13 rounds of chemotherapy over 6 months and 31 continuous days of radiation, she was declared NED (no evidence of disease) in April of 2016. On August 10, 2017, a follow-up scan showed two tumors in her lungs. It was confirmed to be relapsed Ewing’s on August 17, 2017. She started treatment again on August 29th, 2017. She is currently on a clinical trial, after two other types of chemo, in the hopes this is the one to kill the cancer. She is currently being treated at both the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (The Jimmy Fund) in Boston and at Children's Hospital Colorado.
On October 25, 2017, she spoke at a Senate briefing on Capital Hill in Washington DC on behalf of the St. Baldrick's Foundation about the STAR (Survivorship Treatment Access and Research) Childhood Cancer Act. The STAR Act is the most comprehensive childhood cancer bill ever taken up by Congress. It would expand opportunities for childhood cancer research, improve efforts to identify and track childhood cancer incidences and enhance the quality of life for childhood cancer survivors.
Although I am not a shavee. (Martha would not let me shave my head!) I would appreciate your support.
It is because of organizations like St. Baldrick’s that kids like my sister have a chance at having a future.
Thank you for your donation to St. Baldrick's.
