I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: TEAM AMAS

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: TEAM AMAS

My name is Joey S. and I am a 5th grader.  Three years ago when I was in 2nd grade, I learned that the teenage son of one of my Grandfather’s friends was battling a very rare type of spine cancer. Even though I had never met Ryan, his battle - and how he handled it - had a profound impact on me.  I heard about St. Baldrick’s and shaved my head  and raised money “in honor of Ryan”.

The following year, when I was in 3rd grade, Ryan passed away at age 17.  I participated in St. Baldrick’s again, but this time shaved my head and raised money “in memory of Ryan.”

Last year, I shaved my head and raised money “in honor & in memory of all children who have, or had, cancer.”

THIS YEAR I WANT TO GO BIG!!!!!  I have created, and am serving as the Captain for, “TEAM AMAS” (Aliceas Martial Arts Studio, my Karate school).  We are shaving our heads to raise money for childhood cancer research because Kids' cancers are different from adult cancers and childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. We want to help by raising money for cures. My goal is to have a team of at least 20 people and raise at least $5,000, “in honor & in memory of all children who have, or had, cancer.”

My Roles:

  • Shavee
  • Team Captain
