Hello, friends. I wanted to take a moment to share something near and dear to my heart. Back at Iona during my freshman year, I learned of a very cool fundraiser called St. Baldrick's Day, where participants shaved their heads, one by one, and helped raise money to donate towards cancer research among children. The act of shaving one's head shows a defiance against cancer, as well as solidarity among those who have lost their hair to cancer already. I want to show those fighting that we are all in this battle together. We stand together.
On a spiritual whim and a sudden desire to help better the world, I started crafting a plan to bring St. Baldrick's Day to Mount Saint Mary College. I've had many meetings and long distance phone calls, connecting Student Activities and the St. Baldrick's Foundation; I've teamed up with Love Your Melon and begun recruiting people to shave their heads; I've been taking large steps to bring my plan to fruition - and I have to say, given a small window of time, my team and I are making progress.
My event will be held in a month and a day, and in that time period, I intend to raise over $3,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. As a promise of my good will, and a physical symbol of my intentions, I, among others, will be shaving my head bare.
It would mean a great deal to me and the foundation if anyone reading this could help donate to the cause. Every dollar counts.
