I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Henry's 1Ups

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Henry's 1Ups

It may not seem like a big deal for a balding man in his sixties to shave his head. It was, however, a big deal for our son. St. Baldrick's is so much more than raising awareness: these headshaving events raise money for real research searching for real cures.

There are many pediatric cancers that have no cures and few (if any) established treatments. So many families find they quickly run out of options and have no where to go. I am haunted by the day when I spoke with one of Henry's oncologists, trying to get Henry into yet another protocol. He had to tell me "Mr. Cermak, it won't work. Nothing is going to work."

St. Baldrick's Henry Cermak Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research is changing that. Every dime raised by our Hilton Head events has gone to cutting edge research at the cellular level. And that is just one of scores of research grants, as well as infrastructure grants to the Low Country clinics, that will be able offer more treatments and give more families somewhere to go.

There is a lot of competition for your charity dollars these days, especially on our little island. All I ask is that you visit my page at St Baldrick's, attend our fundraiser, tell your friends, like this post, share the event page...

...And if you only give to one fundraiser this year, give to me, too!
