I'm a 2nd year med student who's spent the last eighteen months shadowing in the pediatric heme onc clinic at San Antonio's University Hospital. There I've been allowed to develop my skills as a physician but just as importantly, I've been given the opportunity to interact with young patients who are living vibrantly despite regularly being in a place no parent ever wants to have reason to visit. I'm shaving my head this year because I hope to raise money for childhood cancer research. Each year St. Baldrick's helps contribute to the very same clinic where physicians and nurses and social workers whom I respect and admire give more of themselves than just their expertise to help children be children and become adults. I've seen this money go towards that goal as treatment, transportation, toys, and care. I've also sat with my preceptor and read through papers that show this money going towards research that prevents the worst conversation: "we have no more options."
I care about this and if you've read this blurb, I care about you too. If you can, please make a donation to help us help these kids. If you can't, just throw a like or a comment or a share and let us know you care too.
Thank you so much.
