I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
I'm Ken and I'm a groundskeeper at Dutchess Community College, and they are hosting the St. Baldricks Foundation fundraiser. Did you know on Thursday, April 28th they will be shaving my head bald in an effort to raise money for children's cancer research? I think you'll agree it's a good cause. One that's worthy of our giving. So, in the remaining days, make this the "buzz" at work, on social media, and at the soccer games, then come out to DCC Thursday, April 28th. Watch myself and others get our heads shaved while enjoying a bake sale and a raffle.
Now you may think my goal of $5000 is a bit high, but together i think we can beat it. To reach it, it would take 50 donations at $100, or 100 at $50. How about 200 donations at $25, or vise versa. What I've noticed about fundraising is they don't turn down the most generous of gifts, and every single dollar counts. It's the act of giving that matters.
But this isn't about me, or what I'm doing, or my soon to be bald head. It's about kids like 9 year old Ava who have been fighting a cancer known as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Imagine having to put just being a kid on hold because you have cancer. Imagine going bald, and not having a choice. Imagine for a moment, being the parents of a child with cancer. Haven't we been blessed? I know I have, because I get to call Ava my niece. So I'm raising funds and shaving my head in honor of Ava. She's the bravest person I know, and if all goes well, she will be considered cured this January!
I need your help! Will you consider a donation and give from your hearts? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
God bless you!
Ken
