Foil (noun) - a person or thing that contrasts with and so emphasizes and enhances the qualities of another.

I think that might be how I describe myself in the framework of the St. Baldrick's charity. The 1st and most obvious comparison is that I have some hair and many times these little folks have lost theirs as a result of their treatment. After that it gets a lot more poignant. Point the 2nd, I am a grown adult with a chronic, some say pathological, predisposition towards childish behavior. Compared to these kids that are forced into what is generally considered to be a VERY adult situation for what may be the rest of their lives. Similarly, I am healthy and have been for many years. These children are staring down an adversity that scares the hell out of mature long-lived adults. All of this at a stage in their development that should only have snips, snails, puppy dog tails or sugar and spice.

So...I hope that I can be a foil for them or maybe just a guy with his hat in his hand. A hat that really should be on his bald head. A head that is bald because...well... you know.

Thanks much!

Scott
