Every 3 minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, childhood cancers are unlike many other types of cancer, with treatment options requiring much more specialized procedures. Cancer, in general, is a terrible disease that affects millions of people, but childhood cancer is especially terrifying. The average age of those diagnosed with childhood cancer is six years old. Six years old...the time when kids should be learning about the world, out making friends, and overall just enjoying life. Unfortunately, so many children-about 15,700 a year- are unable to experience this. Alarmingly, 12% of those diagnosed will not live very long, with many more encountering health related difficulties later on in life.
So many tear-jerking stories exist because of childhood cancer, but as research continues, the death rate- along with the heartbreak of the families of those affected- is gradually decreasing. The good people at St. Baldrick's, as well as many volunteers, are helping with this research. Even the smallest donations can make a huge difference in the eyes of a child in need of care. Please help support research to end this terrible disease.
