I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Class of 2019

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Class of 2019

More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease—in fact, more than many other childhood diseases combined. Before they turn 20, about 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will have cancer. Thats why I, along with the rest of the LSUHSC Medical School Class of 2019, are raising money to support research for childhood cancer. You might be thinking "Heath, theres a ton of funding going to cancer already, why should I give any money when millions is already going towards this effort?" Well, I'm glad you asked. Only 4% of US Federal funding is solely dedicated to childhood cancer research. In addition, about 60% of all funding for drug development in adult cancers comes from pharmaceutical companies. For kids? Almost none, because childhood cancer drugs are not profitable. This leaves a HUGE funding gap to help treat and research childhood cancers. So heres the part where I ask for your help. Any amount at all that you would be willing to donate will help more than you know. To make it even better, I am shaving my head bald to help support St. Baldricks! Thank you so much for your time, Heath Garner MSI LSUHSC Medical School
