I've have been growing my hair for three years now so that I'd be able to have my hair cut off and donated to Locks of Love to help people stricken with Cancer have a full head of hair. We often take hair for granted but those that lose it due to Cancer do not. It means the world to them to have a wig that looks great and allows them to feel a bit more normal during the ordeal they endure. About 18 months into growing out my hair I found out that my Grandmother was stricken with a pretty aggressive cancer. So growing out my hair for this cause took on a very personal meaning. We were supposed to attend the St. Baldrick's event in Dallas last year but tornadoes kept us from attending. So this year we attended the event to have my hair taken off. The very bittersweet thing was that my grandmother died a few weeks before the event and didn't get to see it; at least not here on Earth. My family and I believe that she did see it...only her seat was in Heaven with God himself and not here with us. I can only hope that somehow people are inspired to do something courageous to honor those courageous children, women and men who battle this horrible disease every single day. I was very afraid to get on stage in front of all those people...but my Dad told me..."Bravery isn't the abscence of fear, it's being afraid and overcoming it". He was right...it wasn't bad after I just made the move to really do it. My hopes go out to those who are in the battle every day.
Please help me raise money for childhood cancer research. Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers!?!? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
