Hi Everyone,
I'm not sure if you are familiar with St. Baldrick's, but I will be participating this year in an event on March 12th at Northport High School. I'm donating at least 12 inches of my hair to Locks of Love. Locks of Love will use my hair to make wigs for children fighting cancer. In conjunction with donating my hair, I have joined St. Baldrick's and am raising money for childhood cancer research.
Typically, participants shave their heads in solidarity to raise money for childhood cancer research. I have decided to raise money for St. Baldrick's as well as help children fighting cancer who could benefit from having a wig.
This is the third time I have cut and donated my hair to Locks of Love and I plan to continue to support this organization in the future. This is the first time I am participating in St. Baldrick's in conjunction with donating my hair in an effort to raise money to fund childhood cancer research.
St. Baldrick's goal is to find a cure for childhood cancers and give survivors long healthy lives. Their primary focus is to have the greatest impact for kids with cancer around the world. Unfortunately, more than 175,000 kids are diagnosed per year. In the U.S. more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease - more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined. And yet, all types of childhood cancers combined receive only 4% of the U.S. federal funding for cancer research. Help me fund the research that will save their lives!
Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
