I'm helping Seattle's Gorilla FC in raising money to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which allocates funds for research of childhood cancers - filling the void left from federal funding. Seriously, only 4% of federal cancer research grant money goes to this population of cancer patients - a population that is affected by cancer much differently than adults, and tends to have a higher mortality rate in certain types of cancers that otherwise have a high survival rate in adult populations.
To give you an idea of the types of research: development of entirely new drugs that work best for smaller growing bodies, determining combinations of already available drugs/treatment therapies best suited for specific demographics of patients, and even research on the behaviors of cancer in children & figuring out why it's so different from treating adult cancers.
This also includes research on treatment of cancer patients who have already existing/underlying conditions outside of their cancer that could have a negative affect on their treatment - just in the last couple weeks I learned that chemo doesn't respond well (if at all) to cancer patients with Down syndrome. Why? That's where your donations make a difference - to fund the research that will hopefully answer these questions.
SO - even if it's a couple dollars, please consider donating! I've said it before and I'll keep saying it - help us beat our goal to help kids beat cancer!
