I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Melting Pot for Cancer

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Melting Pot for Cancer

In 2013, I shaved my head and raised $4416 individually and our team, The Bald Legette's, raised $5621.  I went to the 2014 event last year and again, both my boys shaved but I did not that year.  I watched my patient's dad get on stage and shave his head to honor his daughter.  Her hair had just begun to grow back but she and her family had also just recently received the news that she had new disease.  She got on stage and had her head shaved because she knew she was going to lose the new baby soft hair she had waited so long to see.  I cried watching her because I knew we were starting yet another round of fighting and was devastated we couldn't cure it the 1st time!  I left the event last year committing to shave in 2015. I am doing this again to raise money to hopefully one day find a cure for this horrific disease.  As many of you know, I have been a Nurse at Children's Hospital Colorado for the past 15 years.  Of all the years I've been there, 2014 has so far been the hardest year.  In 2014, 8 of the patients on my case load lost their heroic battle and became yet another of my angels.  I am shaving to celebrate all my patients who are off therapy and living Cancer FREE!  I am shaving to honor my current patients whose bald heads I get to rub everyday!  I am shaving to honor the parents who look at me everyday wondering what the next day will bring for their child.  I am shaving to honor all the parents I have shed many tears with during a new diagnosis, a relapse after being off therapy for only 3 months, a progression of disease even though their child has been fighting through chemo, surgery and/or radiation or during their own child's or wife's funeral.  I am shaving in remembrance of JA, KD, JH, DM, NM, HM, DM and AW who are now my 2014 angels! As I said in my message posted for my 2013 shave, "I don't take my healthy children for granted or the ability to touch their heads and know that with each strand of hair it signifies, in my world of Oncology, HEALTH! To all the parents I work with who have kissed their child's beautiful bald head and shed a tear for the significance of being bald, I am doing this for you!" Please make a donation to honor and remember all of these patients and their families so we can one day KICK CANCER'S ASS!  Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.  Even a $5.00 donation adds up!  Additionally, please feel free to share my page so we can hopefully meet our team goal and you are always welcome to join our team and help us fundraise!

KISSES TO ALL MY ANGELS AS WELL AS MY PAST and CURRENT PATIENTS!
