Hello and thanks for coming to my page. I'm asking for donations for St. Baldrick's Foundation which is an organization which raises money to fund research to find cures for childhood cancers. In exchange for your generosity, and as a show of solidarity of the kids who have to go through chemotherapy, I will willingly have my head shaved on stage in front of the masses (think - modern day tar and feathering).
I've been involved with SB for the past 5 or 6 years. Its purpose is to not only fund research, and find cures, but also to help prevent severe health problems that these young survivors are prone to encounter later in life. The short of it is, it's a great group which raises money through its volunteers for the purpose of improving the lives of kids who have this unthinkable burden to carry.
So I ask for one (or more) of the following things. First of all - your donations. Nothing is too small to give. It all spends the same way and I'm grateful for anything you can offer. Second - if you think you've got the cajones, feel free to join me and offer up your Leif Garrett-esque locks and raise some money yourself. Lastly - just come out. Have a beer with us. Enjoy the day. Make fun of my bald head. It looks like we'll be doing this on March 15th at Kavarna in the Oakhurst Square. You can even take Marta. It's less than a 1 mile walk from the East Lake train stop through a great little neighborhood. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
If you are unfamiliar, please sift through the St. Baldrick's website and take a peek. The site will answer any other questions you may have regarding the type of work they do, their tax status, how much of your dollar goes where, etc. They are a transparent organization which operates as an open book. And as you look through the site, take a minute to read the stories of some of the kids, I guarantee it puts our day-to-day problems into perspective.
Thanks in advance,
Derek
