It's that time again folks, time to think about Carl getting bald. I am officially registered for my 15TH St. Baldrick's.
For those of you who have known me a couple of years, this is old hat, but for my new "friends," or for others who may be hearing of this for the first time, here goes.
Every year, around St. Patrick's Day, I participate in an event called St. Baldrick's Day, wherein otherwise normal people shave their heads in an act of Solidarity with children who have cancer. The unique thing about this event is that ALL money raised goes to research of various kinds of CHILDHOOD cancer, and ONLY childhood cancer.
This will be my 15TH year participating in this event, making me (I believe) the only Shavee to lose his locks every year we have had an event in Pittsburgh, PA. So far, through the first 14 year, I have raised OVER $35,000.
You may ask why I do this, and so I will tell.
Back in 1999, my little brother, Erich Andrew "Andy" Beck, was diagnosed with cancer, he was 20 months old at the time. He lost a kidney and went through chemo and radiation, but being the fighter he is, he beat it and after maintaining "clean scans" for 5 years was declared a "Survivor"!!
We lost Andy to complications from those earlier surgeries in Feb. 2005, but the strength and courage he showed during his fight back in 1999-2000 was an inspiration to all who know him. If you would like the full story, feel free to drop me a note and i will do my best to share. Also, his grandfather has an entire folder dedicated to Andy in his online photo album. Here is the link:

So now you know why, every year for the past 14, I have spent about half the year bald and then begin growing it back to shave again. This year's event will be on Saturday, March 14, 2015 (International Pi Day!!!). We will be at Claddagh's in the South Side Works, from 10:00 - 4:00. Come on down and join us!!
Thanks for all your help, assistance and mostly support over the years. If you believe in the cause as much as I do, please pass this along to your friends and family (Hell, if you know of any businesses who might like to make a donation, send it to them as well!!) Any one with any questions email me at:

Thanks again for your help,
Carl "Buddha" Beck
