Hey everyone! My name is Christina Wait and I'm a fourth year civil engineering student at the great University of Texas. Hook 'em! I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
This year my younger sister and I will be participating in Brave the Shave which will take place April 12th in front of the UT Tower. We are doing this as a partner fundraising, and our goal is to raise a combined $1000 (please go to her page here: https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/angelawait2015)! If you could donate, even just $5, that would be so incredibily amazing or if you could just spread either of our profiles and encourage others to check out this event, that would be equally splendid!
I first heard of this event two years ago when my best friend announced that she was going to participate. She alone was able to raise $700! And the year after (last year) she decided to do it again and raised even more for cancer research.
Going to the event was an incredible experience and I couldn't help but be inspired by everyone who got their head shaved. It was truly an emotional experience and made me want to do something. When I mentioned this event to my family, my sister's first reaction was "Can I do that too?!" I was blown away that someone her age was so excited to do something so selfless. I had only thought of doing it when I mentioned it, but after seeing her enthusiasm I was sure that this was something I wanted the both of us to do together.
Remember: Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So even just a word of mouth helps.
Thank you all for reading this I hope that my sister and I will be able to inspire everyone to take steps to make this world a better place.
God bless.
