It’s that time of year again. March 7 will mark the 7th year of shaving my head for St. Baldrick’s (yep, I'm getting knighted this year!) and 6 years for Team Schmolivbarr. The reason I continue my efforts is simple. Childhood cancer has not been wiped out yet! It is my intention that as long as I can, I will continue to help in this effort to raise money for research and treatment for childhood cancers—which is what St. Baldrick’s is all about.
My niece, Emily is a success story and the reason I started doing this. Having been diagnosed with Wilms Tumor at age 2, Emily’s treatment was successful and she has been cancer free for 17 years! She is a Freshman at Loyola University where she is studying to become a pediatric oncology nurse. I’m one proud uncle!!!!!!
My little buddy, Landen, lost his short battle with Medullblastoma (brain and spine cancer) on June 29, 2012. Landen was and always will be a huge driving force with Team Schmolivbarr as we shave in his memory. His mom and our dear friend, Deon, is a very involved and energetic part of our team and with her will keep Landen’s memory alive and vibrant!! Landen has a baby brother this year, Braxten, who just so happens to be the cutest baby in the world - and my Godson!
Again this year, our team shaves in honor of Zac, who is currently in remission but is continuing a treatment program through August 2016 for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia B Cell. He was diagnosed on June 17, 2013. Over the past several year we have had the privilege of becoming very close with Zac's family. Through them we have found Zac to be a very brave and determined little boy, and the family an inspiration of how love and courage help make things just a little easier!
We have set our team goals high this year at $15,000.00 and I am confident that we can make it! We currently have 11 members shaving for Team Schmolivbarr. Your support is so greatly needed and appreciated.
Thank you!
