Alright, y'all. I'm doing something crazy. I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! As someone with my own breed of hair drama, growing my hair out for donation has just never seemed to be on the cards for me. Truthfully, I let go of the idea a long time ago, but when the #hairforhazel movement began during the production of The Fault in Our Stars, I started thinking about it again. I thought surely there had to be other options to make not only a difference, but a statement. And then I found St. Baldrick's. Clicking through their website, reading story after story of children and families whose lives had been affected by cancer, I knew this was what I wanted to do. I know better than most that hair grows back, so why not make this small sacrifice (if you can even call it that)? A shaved head is a show of support and solidarity, and it tells children that bald is beautiful. But of course there's more to it than that! Childhood cancer research is so heartbreakingly underfunded, and every single dollar poured into this cause makes a difference. Since 2005, St. Baldrick's has funded 711 grants totaling more than $127 MILLION, but they can't do this without help. I would be appreciative beyond words if you would consider making a donation towards my $500 goal. Donations equal grants, grants fund research, research leads to trials, trials lead to more effective, less toxic treatment options for children affected by cancer, and eventually the right trial will lead to a cure. No amount of money is too small when it has the potential to make such a huge difference.
