I remember reading "Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie" by Jordan Sonnenblick in 7th grade. The book was about the older brother of a child with Leukemia who had a 50% chance of survival. No book moved me more in that time span, not even the final Harry Potter.
As college students, its easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of campus life. There is so much to do that it sometimes makes my head spin. But because of that, it sometimes becomes hard to remember my duty to those who are less fortunate.
This month, I am raising money for St. Baldrick's Foundation's "Brave the Shave" event. Here on UT's campus, almost a hundred students will raise donations for cancer research, and then meet on April 5th, 2014 to get their heads shaved in honor of the children who live with cancer.
I am also leading the UT Senate of College Councils team for this Brave the Shave event. We hope to raise $2500 for cancer research by April 5th.
One of the kids I am honoring, Thomas M., and I both practice the Korean martial art of Kuk Sool. He is in remission, and I hope that he can fully overcome his illness so that he can continue to practice this wonderful art.

We are all busy, important people. But let us not forget that we are also fellow citizens, part of one giant community. Lets do our part.
