THIS IS MY 7TH YEAR!!! I will be knighted, as a Knight of the Bald Table!
My motto is "I would rather lose my hair, than lose another child to cancer!" As a woman it is strange and hard to shave my head, normal it is not. It really brings home the life changing events for families when they hear that their loved one, a child, has cancer. Their shock is mirrored in my own reaction each time I have shaved my head. The reactions of strangers, the stares, feeling like an outsider as I try to carry on as if life is normal.. Can I tell you about the job interviews?
My honor child is the courageous Faith Robinson and her family. Faith's brother, Will, is a friend of my church, St. Timothy Lutheran, Naperville, IL. Faith passed away at age 20, last March 2013, after a remission from ALL that allowed her to pursue her dream of nursing studies at Loyola University, the hospital where she had been treated as a teenager. She was a bright young star of hope in this battle, and her passing knocked me sideways. How can I not humble myself, submit to shaving and ask for donations so that the diagnosis of children's cancer is not a death sentence? As a mother, I cannot turn away.
I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
