This March, I'm shaving my head to raise awareness and money and for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to stand in solidarity with these children and raise money for cures.
Once again this year I am honoring Luke. If you have not read Luke's story from my previous fundraising, please read his story of strength and bravery. In addition to Luke, this year, I am honoring a close friend of ours...Hagan. Below is a email from Hagan's mom that she shared about her son:
Hagan is by far the most amazing, brave and strong 2 year old boy! He's been through so much since he was diagnosed with his brain tumor (stage 2 Ependymoma) on July 29, 2013. A successful surgery removed 75-80% of his tumor and some of the tumor had to remain due to the complexity of the surgery. Hagan recovered and by day 18, he was strong enough to leave the pediatric intensive care unit and go to the rehab unit to essentially re-learn to sit up and walk. After proton beam radiation in Jacksonville, FL. and many chemo treatments, we received fabulous news that his post chemo/radiation MRI showed the tumor is gone and only microscopic cancer cells remain! He is now receiving his last 4 rounds of chemo. The chemo is intense but he's so strong and handles everything in stride. One advantage is his age. I think children have an amazing ability to cope and even have the urge to play after experiencing something not so pleasant even moments prior! Hagan will celebrate his 3rd birthday in April. No kid should have to put up this kind of fight, but Hagan was given this challenge for a reason and as his mom, I have to believe that it's because he is such a fighter and will one day inspire so many with his courageous story. He is involved in many studies and hopefully his progression through treatment will provide answers for future ependymoma cases. Every night, we pray for those children in treatment that don't have Hagan's strength. He is truly our miracle boy and God is so good!
It is my privilege to honor Hagan and Luke by shaving my head, but it is your support and donations that makes this effort a success! Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers....so please click the following link and donate! Thank you!!
