Hello friends & family,
On March 13th I will be shaving my head! You read that right. In one month I will be bald. The first reason for bring inspired to shave my head is my granny’s courageous example. Back in 2011 my grandma was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through many treatments. For nearly 50 years she had worn her hair long and at first, she was petrified of losing it. However, she was determined to have some control in her life and decided to cut her hair short before it began to fall out. It was a life-changing moment for her as she no longer placed her identity in her hair and how it made her look. Miraculously, she didn't lose all her hair. However, the cancer came back again in 2013 and this time she had the courage to shave her head completely bald. I’m proud of her positive attitude as she continues her journey to beat cancer. She is always thinking of ways to help others, even on the days when she has very little strength. She is an inspiration to me and many others that have crossed her path. I'm doing this for her!
I'm also shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research. I have had the privilege to do volunteer work with many strong, healthy kids and a few kids whose daily lives are filled with complex, health-related routines. It is my desire to continue helping children by raising money for cancer cures through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Kids' cancers are different from adult cancers and, sadly, childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. These kids go through so much physically and emotionally. The least I can do is shave my head and support them in their fight.
Now I need your help! If you would like to help me reach my goal, a quick easy way to donate is online, but I can also receive cash or checks. If paying by check, please make it payable to “St.Baldrick’s Foundation” and labeled with my participant number 681956 in the memo line. Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
Thanks,
Kristin Knudsen
