Did you know that childhood cancers are different from adult cancers? Because of this, much of the money raised for research treatments and cures for cancer are heavily focused towards adult cancers. This sad truth is the reason why I am taking a stand to raise money for St Baldricks, a country-wide event where people go to shave their heads to honor all children who have been diagnosed with cancer. Each person that shaves their heads also fundraises so that money raised will go directly to researching childhood cancer.
This foundation has a special meaning for me for two main reasons. First and for most my best friend Pete Fedden, who sadly passed away this summer, was a strong advocate for St Baldricks. Pete owned a breakfast store and all that came in loved him, and he them. As a way to express his love for children he dedicated nine years of growing his hair and raising money for this cause. I joined him for the eight of those nine years. This is my first year participating in St Baldricks without my best friend and means a lot to me to continue this tradition in his memory. Secondly, my cousin was diagnosed with childhood cancer years back and it was through the continuous innovative treatments and research that saved his life. Pete and I honored my cousin one year and this year I decided to pick another child to honor. William is nine years old and is currently battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Please help me raise money for all children that deserve a long, healthy and happy life despite their diagnosis of cancer. Thank You! (Keep Rocking - pete)
