I Thought About You Today
I thought about you today, of course that’s nothing new I've seen you in a crowd but know it’s too good to be true. I've heard you playing outside but when I get up to look I only see memories of photographs I took. I look for your name on the third grade class list but when I can’t find it I’m sure it was just missed.
I've noticed your shadow casting against your bedroom floor but when I look in the shadows no more.
I hear you call my name in the middle of the night but when I peek in your room your hiding out of sight.
I wait for you outside to play our football game but when you don’t come out I yell out your name.
You've called me on my cell phone but when I start to rejoice I only hear memories of your distant voice.
I wait for you after school in my usual spot but as the school empties I stand alone in the lot.
Lately I seem to reason why we seem so far apart, I call out your name but only feel you in my heart.
