Bermuda, 29 January 2014
To My Family, Friends, Business Colleagues and Associates –
I’M GOING BALD FOR CHILDREN’S CANCER RESEARCH!!!
Greetings! I hope that the 2014 New Year is off to a good start for all of you and that it will bring improvements in health, happiness and prosperity over the past few years.
I am writing this e-mail because I would like to ask for your assistance and support. Many of you know that I have been involved in helping to run and administer the St. Baldrick’s event in Bermuda for twelve years when it was first started by my friend Steve Fallon in 2002, two years after St. Baldrick’s was originally founded in New York City by Enda McDonnell, Tim Kenny and John Bender, with the support of other members of the reinsurance industry. St. Baldrick’s has become a worldwide phenomenon.
For those of you who may not be familiar with St. Baldrick’s, it is a charity that raises funds for, and provides grants and fellowships for, children’s cancer research. It raises funds primarily from donations and contributions given as pledges supporting people shaving their heads and “going bald” in empathy for the plight of children who lose their hair as they undergo cancer treatments.
Please visit: www.stbaldricks.org
In its short fourteen years, St. Baldrick’s has raised approximately $130 Million of funds that have been used for children’s cancer research grants, fellowships, and related projects, primarily in the United States but also internationally. St. Baldrick’s has become one of the most significant providers of research grants to combat children’s cancer, second only to the U.S. Government.
I am fortunate in that my children are quite healthy and have not known any debilitating disease such as cancer.
Nonetheless, through my childhood and throughout my life I have known a fair number of people who were close and dear to me who suffered terribly from cancers of one sort or another. Cancer needs to be studied and fought and eliminated for everyone, but particularly from young children who are facing their whole long lives ahead of them. And, as you will see on the St. Baldrick’s website, children’s cancer has significant differences from adult cancer.

In support of the tremendous efforts my friends who founded and supported St. Baldrick’s made to combat this horrible disease, and to help bring an understanding to how to alleviate, cure, and eliminate childhood and all cancers, and in the love, memory and support of those family and friends who have suffered through cancer, including our long standing family friend from my childhood, Mary, my maternal grandparents, my Father, my cousin Peter presently fighting illness, and my good friend Rob Lane who fortunately has overcome his cancer:
I am joining this year’s team of “shavees” to raise more money for St. Baldrick’s by having my head shaved bald in this year’s event in Bermuda on Friday 14 March at the BAA Gymnasium Event.
To get ready for the event, I have been letting my hair grow since the Fall last year. A current picture is on “my page” on the St. Baldrick’s website – the link is below.
I would like to request that you support St. Baldrick’s efforts by making a pledge and donation or contribution based on my shaving my head in this year’s event.
Pledges, donations and contributions may be made on line following the link below; alternatively, if you would prefer, you may make payments by check or cash, which I or any member of the St. Baldrick’s event team will be happy to collect.
To make a Pledge, Donate or Contribute to St. Baldrick’s Foundation please use the attached Donor Form or donate on my page on the St. Baldrick’s website by visiting:

Over the past twelve years, St. Baldrick’s partnered with PALS in Bermuda and funds donated in Bermuda have been used to provide a number of research grants for children’s cancer to the Dana Faber Cancer Institute in Boston and to assist and support a number of families with their costs and expenses to travel to and find lodging and board in Boston and elsewhere when they have gone to be with their children having treatment – such costs and expenses that are not covered by insurance monies but also very needed in supporting every child’s illness and recovery. PALS has decided that for 2014 it needs to focus on its internal and core objectives such that it will not be able to support St. Baldrick’s.
Joining St. Baldrick’s as Bermuda’s local partner for this year is the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, a registered charity engaged in the prevention, detection and support of cancer and other health concerns in Bermuda. Funds raised from the St. Baldrick’s 2014 event that a Pledgor, Donor or Contributor would like to remain in Bermuda will be used to support Bermuda Cancer and Health’s SUN SMART Program which aims to increase the awareness of youth about the importance of practicing SUN SMART behaviors so as to avoid and prevent skin and other cancers.

Pledges, Donations and Contributions that you would like to remain in Bermuda to support this program should b specifically identified on a pledge sheet noting your intentions and paying by a check made payable to St. Baldrick’s/Bermuda Cancer and Research Fund referencing “St. Baldrick’s – SUN SMART Partnership” or paying by cash. Please do not remit those monies over the St. Baldrick’s website.
If you have any questions, please contact me at cdsposato@integrity.bm
or by phone on 1-441-704-4143.
In closing, I would like to thank you in advance for your consideration and I hope support with this charitable endeavor.
Best regards,
Chris
