I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Hi friends! My name is Daphne Thammasila and I am baldly (pun) shaving my head to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer. I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to ask for your support in my attempt to raise money to fund pediatric cancer research. Cancer sucks. I have personally seen its effects on my family and friends and I have always felt helpless. I wanted to be able to help in some way and that’s when I learned about St. Baldrick’s. They specifically work with pediatric oncologists to fund cancer research. Just check out their mission here: http://www.stbaldricks.org/why-we-exist/.

St. Baldrick’s is an incredible organization. I feel so strongly for their mission that I jumpstarted my efforts to raise money with some of my own. I ask that you please support me (but mostly all the deserving kids) by donating some money to the cause. But don’t think that money is the only way to show your support! Prayers and encouragement are very welcome too. If you have time, come out and support me and all the other awesome shavees in April. Click "Make a donation" to give online, or donate by phone or mail.

Out of all of the ways to raise money for cancer, I know shaving my head may seem very silly, but this haircut has the potential to do so much for children with cancer. The media is constantly bombarding us with images of what is normal, beautiful, and feminine. My hair does not define who I am. Society places so much emphasis on hair and I want to stand in solidarity with others to show that bald really is beautiful. Thank you to everyone who have already given me so much positive feedback for participating in this event. And thank YOU for taking the time to check out my page! ☺
