I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
I decided last year to become a shavee for St. Balderick's in March 2014 in honor of my 7 year old son Dwayne L. that is a survivor of bilateral retinoblastoma (cancer of the eyes). He will be celebrating 5 years of being cancer-free Feb. 2014.
He was diagnosed the day before his 1st birthday and he had 12 cycles of chemo and had surgery to have one eye removed when he was 15 months old and after he finished his chemo, the cancer returned to his other eye and it had to be surgically removed when he was 2 1/2 years old. One of his chemos caused him to have hearing loss in both ears.
He is full of energy, laughter and love and he inspires everyone around him to look at life in a whole new way.
After I made the decision to become a shavee for St. Baldrick's to raise awareness and raise funds to find a cure for childhood cancer, I was diagnosed with breast cancer Nov. 2013. I am currently undergoing treatment. I will have 6 cycles of chemo and 5 1/2 weeks of radiation. I will receive chemo #3 on Jan. 20 and I will then be halfway through with my chemo. This has just made me more determined to raise awareness and funds for a cure for childhood cancer. No child should ever have to fight for their lives against cancer and no parent should ever have to hear the words, "Your child has cancer."
Please help St. Baldrick's any way you can. Become a shavee, make a donation, create a fund raising event in your area, whatever feels right to you. Let's work together to find a cure.
