Kyle Valasek is now 3 years old. He was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia called Acute Myeloid Leukemia or AML for short just before his third birthday. Kyle was in need of a bone marrow transplant so the search for a donor started. Jake, Kyle's older brother at seven was tested and on a scale of one to six was a perfect match with six out of six. This was both exciting and terrifying for the parents. This meant that both of their sons would be going through procedures. Jake, was the perfect donor, as he was happy to help his little brother.
Kyle was admitted to Cohen's Children's Hospital on August 21st. At this time Kyle had his final round of very intense chemo therapy. This was needed before the bone marrow transplant could take place.
On September 4th the bone marrow transplant took place. Today in such a short time Kyle is cancer free. This does not mean that it is over with, not by a long shot. Kyle is far from being called cured. This is just one step in a very long process that starts with one year isolation. Limited visitors, limited going out, limited everything for a 3 year old.
Kyle must continue to be seen at Cohen's Children's Hospital weekly for blood tests and oncology Dr. visits.
