I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: TEAM GORUCK

I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Now I need your help! This will be my second year to participate in St Baldrick's. This year I joined team Goruck. Goruck is made up of some amazing people that are involved in team building endurance events as well as giving back to the community. Little did I know when I signed up to have my head shaved and to raise funds for childhood cancer research that I would know a little boy who whould be diagnosed with ALL a form of childhood Leukemia. This year I will be honoring Jaxsen. Jaxsen's Mom tells his story. "Jaxsen is an adventurous, spunky, silly 2-year-old little boy. During a routine visit to his pediatrician at the beginning of January, his doctor noticed that Jax looked a little paler than usual. We were sent to get some bloodwork done to see what was causing Jaxsen's paleness. The following day, we learned that there were abnormal cells present in his system. We were sent to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Baltimore for further examination, where Jax was promtly admitted. Within two days of admission, life as we knew it came to a complete halt. We learned that Jaxsen had a form of childhood cancer called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). ALL is a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that is involved in the body’s immune system. As soon as we discovered the Leukemia, Jax began treatment. He was immediately thrown into a seemingly-neverending cycle of procedures, xrays, tests, bone marrow aspirations, lumbar punctures, chemotheraphy drugs, steroids, and even an invasive surgery to implant a port into his chest. He was discharged from Mt. Sinai after spending only five nights in the hospital because he handled everything so well. Jax is currently going to Mt. Sinai on a weekly basis to receive his chemotheraphy treatments. We are extremely thankful that throughout the whole process, Jax remained the goofy, energetic, silly boy that he has always been. We are blessed to have received so many prayers, warm thoughts, and well wishes during this trying time." On March 2nd I along with many more will be shaving our heads to raise money for childhood cancer research. Please keep Jaxsen and his family in your prayers. Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
