Recently I had a coworker shave her head with St. Baldrick's Foundation because she felt if was one of the few ways she could help support children and their families going through such a tough journey. I thought it as such a neat selfless act for her to do but didn't think it'd be something I'd do in the future.
Two years ago I had a close family friend Katie Wagner be diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma at the age of 15 years old. It was a tough journey for her and her family but with their Faith in God they got through their tough journey even though it meant losing Katie here on earth in September 2013.
Katie never once asked "God, Why Me!" She embraced her condition and used it to spread God's love, to tell THOUSANDS of people who God was, why she trusted him, and why THEY should trust him! To this day Katie's Story has reached over 75,656 people! That number is an under estimate, that number is only the number of followers her family support page has following them and witnessing the Wagner's journey as a family as well as journey in Christ.
After losing Katie in September my instant thought was "How can I not shave my head to support childhood cancer and research!" Katie faithfully used her body for Christ, I feel I need to help Katie's Legacy Live! Shaving my head in honor of Katie is the least I can do for her life mission! She was cancer free for a short time in those two years and one of the first things she did was get a tattoo where her port scar was that said "One Day At A Time" so that anyone asked about her tattoo she could share her story and God's love with them!" I feel that by shaving my head and people ask me about that I can share Katie's Story and God's Love with them and I KNOW that's what Katie wanted. Katie planned her own "Celebration of Life Service" (what many of us would call a funeral) and her main goal at that service was to make sure that EVERYONE there knew about God's love for them.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
