I’m shaving all my hair off on April 5th to raise money for pediatric cancer research. I have had the great opportunity to volunteer at the oncology clinic of Dell Children’s Medical Center every week. Not going to lie, the first time I ever volunteered there I almost broke down. It was just so hard for me to understand why these little beautiful angels had to suffer from such a horrible disease. As I volunteered more often, I noticed the kids were more happy than a lot of people I encountered everyday. From those little kids, I learned to be happy; to appreciate everything I had in life, and always laugh no matter how huge the bump is in the road of life. They have thought me to let go of all the negative things the world gives to you, to paint, play games, laugh, focus on being kind to others, and cherish the people that care for you. I owe those kids a lot. The amazing organization S.M.I.L.E. (Students Making Impact Through Love and Empathy) is hosting an event called Brave the Shave! All the money raised at Brave the Shave will go to St.Baldrick’s Foundation, which is a volunteer-driven charity raising money to fund research for childhood cancer. More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease—in fact, more than many other childhood diseases combined. I’m shaving all my hair off to help find a cure to this disease and to show those kids that being bald is beautiful. I know that growing up in a world that so much emphasis is put upon hair and beauty is hard, especially when you are such a little child and have no idea why you look different. I want them to know that they are not different, that being bald is just another hair cut, and is as beautiful as having long hair. So please help me make my dream come true and help me raise money to end this disease.
