I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Hair for Hope

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Hair for Hope

I am raising the money and shaving my head in honor of my 11 year old cousin Luke Giunta. Luke had a bump on his head removed in late July 2012 and doctors discovered cancerous cells in his body. He went through a lot of testing at Children's Hospital and was diagnosed with lymphoma. In children, lymphoma carries a good prognosis -- 80-90% cure. They immediately started a two year plan of chemotherapy for Luke. Thankfully, today he is cancer-free, but he is still going through the rigorous tortures of ongoing chemotherapy and dealing with the side effects as a child. One of the many (and less painful) side effects being hair loss. I attended last year's St. Baldrick's event and was moved by all of the participation and stories of young, innocent children being diagnosed with cancer, and was shocked to find out how underfunded childhood cancer research is. Only 4% of NIH (National Institute of Health) budget is slated for childhood cancer research, but those children who have the longest life span ahead of them deserve a shot too! I figured if I could raise money for such a worthy cause by simply shaving my head, I'd be selfish not to help out. Shaving my head is not just an "event", it's symbolic to the children, and Luke, who don't have a choice on whether or not they lose their hair, letting them know they are not alone and that we are on their side in this battle with cancer. So please help me, help the kids by donating whatever you are able to this great charity. Thank you, Matt Kuse
