I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: UBC Medicine 2015

I am shaving my head in this event because I want to contribute in fundraising for the research in the childhood cancer. I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on the left tibia when I was 10 years old. I was treated in the B.C. Children's Hospital, and now I volunteer as a mentor in the TeenConnector for the Canada Childhood Cancer Foundation. According to the PAC2 & CureSearch, "1 in 5 children diagnosed with cancer will die within 5 years." Moreover, "in 20 years the FDA has initially approved only one drug for any childhood cancer. Half of all chemotherapies used for children's cancers are 25 years old," yet "the incidence of invasive pediatric cancers is up to 29% in the past 20 years." We need to give all the children fighting cancer to have a better chance for a cure. I believe that many lives can be saved from advanced research in childhood cancer, and this can only be done by funding for the research. Please support by joining the event. It is not mandatory to shave your head to contribute. Shaving head is one of the option but instead, you could make a donation or volunteer at the event. Thank you for your support!
