Stand up for what you believe in and do so with passion.
This is the philosophy I think back to every time someone asks me why I want to shave my head.
The responses I receive back vary from looks of peer shock to statements like "You're crazy", "But your hair is so beautiful!!", and even "You could just cut it and donate it..."
Why I've chosen to shave, though, relays back to the message it brings: That people are not defined by their outward appearance nor any illness that ails them.
I've had the golden opportunity to work with these children in a variety of settings-in hospitals, clinics, schools- and each time I'm struck with the amount of inspiration they bestow upon me. Each child has a story, a hardship they've overcome, and an outcome they cannot prevent.
I've seen children undergo chemotherapy treatment before- I've spoken to those who've had to take off school to get hospitalized, and I've witnessed the deaths of some of the most beautiful angels who hadn't yet gotten a chance to dream.
And while those children don't have a choice, I do.
The choice I've made comes entirely from the bottom of my heart, because although I don't have all of the riches in the world, I have this one shred of myself to give..
For EVERYONE who has ever been affected by this terrible disease, I do this for you.
Sincerely,
Nguyen
