I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with youth fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures, improve treatment outcomes and change the way we provide cancer care to adolescents and young adults.
I'm having my head shaved because the children and young people who are being diagnosed right now, are the same young people who are meant to carry us into the next iteration and evolution of society. They are the next wave of leaders and inventors. They are the children of the digital age who never know life without computers and cell phones. They understand things in a way that we as a country and a society are going to need. We can’t spare them. We can’t have them idle and unable to contribute and to share their gifts because their cancer messed with their development, their heads, their hearts or their souls.
I'm having my head shaved because if I was the one sitting on that exam table and heard “It’s cancer” followed by the voice of the teacher from the Peanuts comic, I would want to know that their was someone like me supporting the kind of work that I’m doing to make the experience more manageable and minimize its negative impact on the rest of my life.
